Operation Christmas Child boxes do have an impact.
That is the message of Lorrunda Sewell, who Saturday was among the individuals helping receive shoeboxes at the Life Care Centers of America’s Campbell Center. The collection of shoeboxes continues through Monday.
When she was a child in South Africa, Sewell received one of the shoeboxes filled with toys, candy and other items.
She was 12 and wanted a Barbie doll for Christmas. However, her parents told her they were unable to afford gifts that year.
When she saw the ads on television from America, she thought how lucky American youngsters were.
“They get everything they want and I don’t get any Christmas gifts,” she said.
Two weeks before Christmas, Sewell received a shoebox from Operation Christmas Child.
“Out of all the boxes that came, my box had a Barbie doll,” she said.
